How to Tell of a Fever with Your Young One
Fever is always one of the reasons why we have our children taken to the emergency rooms. This is so common and we actually don’t feel surprised by this fact. Childhood is often occasioned with a lot of fevers and are also quite fearful to the child and the parents all the same. This article is particularly concerned with giving some questions and answers to the same in order to help parents handle the panic that often sets in when a child is caught in fever.
First and foremost, let us see what fever actually is. Fever is when the child has a body temperature which rises just above the normal 37 degrees. You can take the body temperature by using a thermometer. In as much they are good at helping the child fight certain kinds of infections, when they get beyond the normal fevers can start to get you worrying and uncomfortable more so when you consider how old the child happens to be.
You may be asking yourself the question of how do you know your son or daughter has caught fever. Depending on age, a child with fever will show certain changes in their body and will feel hot. For the newborns, they will feel a lot fussier and sleepier than is the normal and will refuse to breastfeed or even the bottle. For the older babies, you will find them a lot cranky and less energetic as compared to the normal. The toddler will as well be thirsting a lot and will have a lowered appetite. You will as well be able to tell of a fever in your toddler when they particular exhibit signs of listlessness and lack of interest in so much of their fun activities. Fever is as well manifest in children when they have a trouble falling asleep or being more sleepy than normal. Look out for the signs of fever in your child age above 2 when you see them feeling tired and being unusually whining, when they are asking for drinks than is usual and complain of chills and or pains in their body. If your child happens to get you any of the above mentioned signs, don’t hesitate with taking their body temperatures.
